Assam: One hurt in stray rhino attack (India)

Efforts are on in Assam’s Darrang district to drive home a rhino which strayed out of the Orang National Park.

Joint efforts from forest staff of the Orang National Park and Mangaldai Territorial Forest Beat Office besides police of Shyampur Police Station are stated to be still on to drive the full grown straying rhino back to the Park without any damage being done.

“Since Saturday morning we along with the staff of Mangaldai Territorial office and Shyampur police are trying to drive the rhino back to the forest,” said an on duty forest guard of the National Park.

“Two elephants of the forest department have also been placed into service,” the forest guard added.

One Barek Ali, a resident of No 2 Shyampur village was admitted to Mangldai Civil Hospital on Saturday with minor injuries when he had been attacked by the rhino which had sneaked into the residential areas surrounding the south west border of the Park.

One person was seriously injured in rhino attack at Borbeel of Hatikhuli near the Kaziranga National Park in Assam.

The injured person has been identified as one Soren Nahok of Lokhowjan tea estate of Bokakhat.

According to sources, the victim was attacked by a rhino when he went to attend to nature’s call early morning.

The rhino is believed to have strayed out of the national park.

The victim was urgently administered first aid at the Hatikhuli tea estate hospital and later sent to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

The person had sustained severe injuries on his eyes, head and arms.

One person died and another person was injured when a rhino attacked them in Chitwan National Park today.

The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Ash Bahadur Tamang, aka Gore, of Kawasoti-13, Nawalpur.

Buddhimaya Gurung, 35, of the same place, was injured in the attack that occurred when local forest users had entered the forest area of Namuna Buffer Zone Community Forest Users’ Group inside Chitwan National Park as the forest user committee had opened the forest for local users to collect firewood for a day today keeping in view the festival time.

While Gurung was injured from the attack, locals recovered Tamang’s body only in the evening. “As Tamang didn’t come out from the forest till late in the afternoon, the locals had gone to search for him; they found his badly mangled body,” said Kawasoti-13 Ward Chairperson Binod Rana.

Buddhimaya’s has received major injuries on her waist, head and other body parts, said her husband.

BARDIYA: Three persons have sustained injuries in an attack by a rhino at Barbardiya Municipality of the district on Sunday morning.

A rhino that came out from Ranipur jungle attacked them as they had gone to Kusumbaghat to observe a newly-constructed suspension bridge.

The injured are Ram Prasad Tharu, 39, of Barbardiya-4, Jungali Tharu, 65, of Barbardiya-5 and Shikha Tharu, 10, of Barbardiya-4.

According to police, among the injured two are in critical condition and have been taken to the Kohalpur-based Teaching Hospital for treatment.
